Welcome to Scottish Football Analytics
Detailed, unique coverage of Scottish football is hard to find. Scottish Football Analytics is here to provide exactly that, using data to help fans engage with the game in new, exciting ways.
Filling a gap in Scottish football media coverage
I believe there’s a gap in how the Scottish game is covered. Mainstream media outlets provide the fundamentals: game recaps, press conference coverage, transfer news, occasional opinion pieces, etc. Fan media provides more detailed coverage of individual clubs, across a variety of formats (YouTube channels, podcasts, etc.). But whilst the field of data and analytics has exploded across the sporting world in recent years, data-driven insights on Scottish football remain difficult to find.
My goal is to help fans of Scottish football take their engagement with the game to a deeper level — not by bombarding you with statistics or filling pages with obscure terminology and acronyms, but by using data to provide insights about the game in an accessible, inviting way.
Why are teams improving or regressing? How are new players changing their clubs’ fortunes? What is a new manager doing to change a club’s results? Which players are performing at a high (or low) level in ways that might not be obvious? How can data help us answer these questions objectively and insightfully?
So, if you’re looking for a depth of insight that you’re not finding across mainstream media, fan media, and message boards, I hope Scottish Football Analytics will be a welcome addition to how you follow the Scottish game.
For the time being, this is side project for me. The quantity and frequency of new content may vary. I’ll gauge the demand for this kind of content based on some initial content I make available for free, and then make decisions on subscriptions, pricing, etc. from there.
Lastly, a very few words about myself. I’ve worked nearly a 20-year career in data analytics in the marketing industry in the U.S. — and I’m also a Rangers supporter who wishes the Scottish game was better understood and appreciated. My goal with Scottish Football Analytics, however, is not to focus solely on Rangers, or even on Celtic. My goal is to cover the game broadly, focusing on insights that aren’t being reported elsewhere.
